Make money from your content and traffic... Not from your readers. Ive been an AI fan (checking this app daily for at least a year) and now unfortunately I have to delete it. Its a shame. Also, whose idea was it to not allow users to opt out or decline the subscription?? Such a stupid move.
You need to add a cancel button to dismiss this Alert asap - as stated by the other reviewer.
With this app update you are forced into starting a trial subscription to use the app and then are hit with nagging notices to pay. Unsatisfactory! Use the mobile web site instead.
Unlike what some people think, you do not have to buy a subscription. Ive been using it non-stop. The app is clean and easy to navigate.
Was OK app until just now when they tried to force a premium subscription. Its either amateur hour at AI or a developer error by not including a cancel button. My recollection is that this may contravene Apples developer guidelines. To another reviewer who whined that anyone who complained about this must be a hater, because AI wont charge your credit card after the trial, thanks for the laugh :)
It would help if the release notes explained it better though. When the try the new and Improved’ (...blah, blah, blah,,,) you don’t need a cancel button because clicking on the sheet does not obligate you to subscribe it at anytime - of course they would like you too. You then get all the bells and whistles the Premium version adds. When the trial period runs out then the trying to use the Premium features will remind you that a subscription is required to turn those back - danged annoying but it is their app (and remove ads I believe). You can continue to use the app without the new features. For me that is fine cause I generally read AI on my 27 inch iMac anyway along with my other daily stuff. Some of the new stuff is nice. IMHO very little of it is worth the $0.75 - $1.00 / month the ask for. I would think that a flat fee for the upgrade (something along $2.00 one time fee seems more reasonable. Cheers!
The format & fonts are beautiful to read. The size of the fonts and their layout is very easy on my eyes. Even the ads are nicely situated so as not to be a nuisance. One quibble I have with the iPad app is that adding comments isnt intuitive since you have to navigate to the home page re-find the article and then login and comment. Thats just too many steps to do something that normally isnt difficult when viewing the site within a browser window. Thanks for a nice way to consume Apple rumors & news!
Saw that there was a prompt to start a free trial to read articles within the Appleinsider IOS app that couldnt be bypassed or dismissed. Are you kidding me?!?! I rarely used to use this app to read AI articles while on the go & not near a computer but if I gotta pay to read articles via the app that I can read on the web for free Id just as soon delete this piece of crap. For the time being, I dont see anything about being able to use the app to read articles for free but that could be because its designed to bait you into thinking you need to subscribe to continue seeing articles albeit with ads. Guess well see if it turns out that there is a way to read AI articles for free via the app but if not, this is one less app Ill be using for Apple news & rumors!
This app follows a trend from free app developers who either force you to sign up for a paid service (a trial initially) or who upgrade with an app with irritating ads. appleinsider chooses the former by making you sign up for the free trial (for a paid version). Are you serious? The upgrade gives you one option: sign up for a free trial. They forgot - the other option I chose was to delete the app. Heading to macrumors...
As an apple news site you would expect their app to support the iPhone 6 and 6 plus. Nope. Add iPhone 6 support, its shameful you left this out in your "update". Still no iPhone 6 support months later.
Randomly introducing a forced subscription to read a feed is an insult to all of your customers.
This really is a beautiful app. Unfortunately for me, a big requirement is use of the iOS 8 share options. The only conclusion I can make is they do not want people sharing their articles.
Twice now you have murdered DED articles that work great on the web mobile version. You also force us to take the premium version for 39 days when I would not pay for it especially on a continual basis.
Ads take up the entire screen and require the user to press a tiny X button to close them. Not cool. Better to just use their website.
I enjoy the convenience of the App, except it has a major flaw for at least the last 3 revisions. When viewing and article, sometimes, especially long ones will not be displayed in their entirety. There is no way to really know as the sentence will always end, but the article will seem like it never wrapped up. Clicking on "Comments" will show you the mobile web version with the WHOLE article and then the comment to the bottom. If I was a paying subscriber, I would find this very unacceptable!
Not made for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Also, why do I have to pay to add something to pocket?? Thats ridiculous.
No.1 source for Apple news and yet ironically no update for new iPhones after months!
Useful app but so annoying that podcast stops when screen saver kicks in. (:-(
App looks so much nicer with iPhone 6 display support.
